Susan E. Brown, Ph.D., CNS, conducts research and clinical pilot studies designed to explore the nutritional and lifestyle factors influencing bone health. These studies are often done in conjunction with The Osteoporosis Education Project (OEP), which she directs. OEP has researched, and continues to investigate, promising nutritional and lifestyle approaches to bone health development, maintenance, and regeneration. Another large segment of OEP research focuses on acid-alkaline balance and bone. OEP is interested in further identifying the role that the requirement for acid-alkaline balance within the body plays in bone health, and conversely, the role that bone plays in the all important maintenance of internal acid-alkaline balance. Current additional areas of OEP research involve: (a) rethinking the impact of, and requirements for, Vitamin D; (b) research into the pediatric origins of osteoporosis; and (c) research into fracture reduction and special nutrient needs of the elderly. |
